GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT CALLED TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE WITH PEERS

Paradise Palms Golf Course Superintendent, Jeff Lane, has been invited to speak at the Western Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association biennial Turf Conference.

Held in Margaret River, 300 km south of Perth, the conference attracts all of the Golf Course Superintendents from Perth and South West region of Western Australia.

According to Mr Lane, this three day event will feature a number of turf maintenance topics.

“I have been asked to give two presentations – one on the progress and future plans for the Paradise Palms Golf Course and the other on turf management practices in FNQ.”

Jeff Lane is one of Australia’s leading golf course managers and winner of the Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association (AGCSA) Fellowship Award.  He was appointed Golf Course Superintendent of Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club in November 2007.

After a four year apprenticeship in green keeping at Balgowlah Golf Club in Sydney, NSW, Mr Lane has spent 20 years working at Western Australian courses.  Following successful stints in various roles at Sun City Country Club and Wanneroo Golf Club, it is not surprising Jeff’s expertise has been honed to award-winning status.  After 12 years as Superintendent at Gosnells Golf Club Jeff has spent the past four years at Joondalup Country Club.  In his role as Superintendent Jeff was instrumental in securing Joondalup’s ranking by Golf Australia as Australia’s number one resort golf course.

Mr Lane is highly admired by his peers who in 1996 awarded him with the AGCSA Fellowship Award.  Endorsing his place as one of Australia’s truly great Golf Course Superintendents, this award recognizes excellence to management, community, environment and ongoing development.

Horizon Celebrates Record Month in Resi Finance

MEDIA RELEASE                                     Wednesday 29 APRIL 2009

RECORD MONTH FOR HORIZON DEFIES DOOM & GLOOM

Horizon Financial has defied ‘doom and gloom’ in the business community writing a new record in residential finance for the month of March.

Last month Horizon Financial wrote a total of $ 15 million in residential finance which is the largest ever month end total in the company’s nine year history.

“While commercial loans are definitely down, residential business is showing unprecedented buoyancy – a national trend attributed to a combination of factors, not the least of which is the federal Government’s first home buyer’s grant.

“To give you some idea of this increase, last month’s figure of $15 million is a 200 per cent increase on results for March 2008.

According to Mr Turnbull, it is not just the first home buyer’s market having an affect, but also lower interest rates.

“With interest rates at an all time low, people are not surprisingly, keen to take advantage.  In effect, using this opportunity to refinance and consolidate debt. And with the big banks getting increasingly stringent in their willingness to loan, a broker has the flexibility to pair an individual’s financial situation with a financial institution that best meets their needs,” he said.

Horizon Financial was founded in Cairns almost nine years ago by Donna and Mark Turnbull. Since then it has developed in to a competitive commercial and residential finance broking and travel business employing 12 staff and in 2008 wrote a combined total of $170 million in finance.

QLD showcased in GUAM Hot Deals Campaign

MEDIA INFORMATION                                      Tuesday 28 April 2009

A CONTINENTAL APPROACH TO SHOWCASING QLD IN GUAM

Todd Parker, Managing Director,  Parker Travel Collection celebrates the launch of first ever dedicated QLD campaign in Guam with David Kendall, Director of Micronesia Sales and Marketing, Continental Airlines.

The team at Parker Travel Collection have notched up another first with the launch last week of Guam’s first ever dedicated Queensland campaign.

Entitled Queensland Hot Deals (GUAM), the campaign was created by Parker Travel Collection in conjunction with Continental Airlines to essentially support the carrier’s five flights weekly between Guam and Cairns.

Speaking about the campaign, Mr Parker said the campaign is designed to compel Micronesia’s visitor market with a series of pay/stay offers and packages that are commissionable to travel agencies.

“This campaign is innovative in several respects, not the least of which dictates a percentage of every sale goes back to Continental Airlines to assist with the development of tourism business into Guam.

“These flights are fundamental to the future sustainability of Tropical North Queensland’s tourism industry as they provide a convenient travel option for both Japanese and Micronesians visitors.  And I believe this trend will continue with Guam’s US military that is destined to increase significantly with the planned relocation of Japan’s Okinawa US military base,” said Mr Parker.

Queensland Hot Deals with Continental Airlines is just one of many campaigns created by Parker Travel Collection to develop new markets and service them over the long term.

Parker Travel Collection has offices in Cairns, Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne. For further information, contact Todd Parker, Parker Travel Collection on 07 4055 6122, mob: 0417 440 922, email:todd@trav.com.au or visit website www.parkertravelcollection.com
