YOGA IN PARADISE

Calling all Cairns yogis! Commencing Tuesday 1 September, Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club will offer twice weekly yoga classes in its beautiful tropical surrounds that are aimed at increasing spiritual, mental and physical wellbeing.

From next week, one of the region’s most experienced Hatha yoga teachers, Karen Thesinger of Xclusive Yoga will lead two, 90 minute classes from 6pm every Tuesday and 9am every Saturday.

According to Karen, yoga is a well-known, Hindu method of exercise and discipline aimed at spiritual, mental and physical wellbeing.

“I am thrilled at to have such a breathtaking environment as my backdrop to introduce the art and science of yoga. From our very first class we will explore this ancient, Eastern philosophy through the practice of ‘asanas ‘or postures that are all focused on promoting a healthy body and mind.

“These classes are open to everyone –those who are new to yoga and those continuing to develop their practice. Each class is designed to meet the individual needs of participants in a safe and encouraging environment and to inspire a sense of peace,” said Karen.

Each class comprises a series of warm-up stretches and postures, breathing techniques, alignment of postures and personal adjustments – culminating in a deep relaxation session.

Karen Thesinger is a qualified yoga teacher and member of the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia.

For a limited time only, Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club is targeting conference business with half and full day delegate packages tailor-made for small groups of 10 to gatherings of 200.

Inclusive of venue, note pads and pens, iced water, welcome tea and coffee, morning tea and lunch in 59 Restaurant, a special half day delegate package is now available at just $35 per person with a full-day package adding further catering with afternoon tea for just $45 per person.

Its Austin and Mangano conference rooms can be combined for to seat large-scale groups up to 200 classroom-style, while smaller gatherings can opt for either venue in a theatre-style configuration. Both rooms adjoin wide ocean-view verandahs as the perfect ‘break out’ area for morning and afternoon tea breaks.

According to director of sales and marketing, Rosie Douglas, Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club is in a class of its own when it comes to meetings and memorable events.

“Spanning corporate, leisure and resort services, our range of facilities is unrivalled. Paradise Palms not only comprises one of Australia’s championship golf courses, but a beautiful clubhouse, brand-new conference centre, signature restaurant and 96 room resort as well. Add to this, a fantastic new mini-golf course, and soon to be opened children’s playground - and you have truly special destination that is unrivalled in the tropical north.

“There’s a time for work and a time for play and when it comes to business meetings, our team is experienced in the art of combining the two – offering an excellent range of team building and bonding exercises and options. Half and full day meeting itineraries may include starting the day with golf – be it a serious round of nine holes commencing with tuition (putting, driving and chipping clinic with course pro) or a lighthearted turn at the newly completed mini-golf. For bigger groups (up to 200 delegates), there is an opportunity to provide both options simultaneously.

Mrs Douglas said another popular inclusion in conference itineraries is asking delegates to swap golfing irons for frying pans and spirits.

“It seems everyone wants to learn how to impress in the kitchen – be it cooking a simple dish or shaking the perfect cocktail. We currently have great demand for these activities which often culminate in a celebratory lunch in 59 Restaurant and Bar. Delegates get to have fun, learn some skills – all the while, enjoying amazing views of the greens and fairways,” she said.
