Pelicans in Paradise Open Day

PARADISE PALMS OPENS PELICANS IN PARADISE WHILE

SUPPORTING LOCAL CHARITY

10am to 4pm, Sunday 1 November 09

This Sunday 1 November between 10am and 4pm, Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club will host an open day,  to launch its new Pelicans in Paradise facilities comprising swimming, adventure park and mini golf while raising money to support FNQ Hospital Foundation.

The open day program will focus on giving families and interested members of the community a taste of the new facilities while enjoying free activities and entertainment; face painting, mini golf competition, golf clinic, treasure hunt, Rachel Bradley music show, sausage sizzle and more.  Guests are also invited to relax with a drink, meal or snack in 59 Restaurant and Bar.

An official opening of Pelicans in Paradise will take place at 2pm with a ribbon-cutting performed by Mayor of Cairns Regional Council, Val Schier.

Rosie Douglas, Director of Sales and Marketing for Vision Hotels and Resorts said the day will showcase Paradise Palms’ new facilities which are available to locals to use and enjoy.

“We are proud to unveil our fantastic new adventure playground and mini golf in particular which are designed to enhance our world-class experience for guests of all ages – not just the serious golfers.

”In addition to this, the open day will also serve to fundraise for the FNQ Hospital Foundation.  The idea is for visitors to donate a gold coin in return for participation – be it mini-golf or other.  We are also planning a special charity auction to raise additional funds,” she said.

FNQ Hospital Foundation Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator, Justine Warren is working closely with Rosie to organise the event and says the fundraising will support the redevelopment of a Short Stay and Recreational Area of the Children’s Ward at Cairns Base Hospital.

“The project will build on, and enhance the current small play area into a large, multi faceted area encompassing both indoor and outdoor recreational and educational facilities and additional beds for pediatric inpatients. This will include a new school room, an Arts and Craft centre, a family reflection garden and play equipment designed to assist in rehabilitation. With an estimated cost of $800 000, we rely greatly on the support of business such as Vision Hotels and Resorts and the local community to get behind us and support the sick children of the Far North,” said Justine.

The official opening of Pelicans in Paradise caps off a major redevelopment program undertaken over the past two years – primarily upgrading the clubhouse, introducing a new restaurant and a 96 room, 4.5 star boutique resort.

The program begins at 10am with kid’s golf clinic, Doyle Family Music Show and Swimming.  At 11am the Doyle Family Music Show continues – and the Mini-Golf Competition tees-off.  There is also a sausage sizzle and more swimming fun at this time.  Between 12 noon and 1pm, parents should not miss the shoulder massages in the clubhouse and at 1pm, kids should line up for the treasure hunt, sand art, face painting and a second Mini-Golf competition.  All this and more will culminate in a fundraising auction at 3pm, the announcement of the competition winners and a final pin the tail on the pelican game.

When travelling north along Captain Cook Highway, Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club is situated on the left,  just past the Kewarra Beach Roundabout.  Follow the signs.

OFFICIAL TRIPLE A RATING FOR NEW RESORT

The newly opened Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club has received its official AAA rating as 4.5 star accommodation

The newly opened Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club this week received its official AAA rating as a four and a half star property.

Operated by Vision Hotels and Resorts, Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club opened its first accommodation in February this year.

Situated adjacent Paradise Palms’ impressive clubhouse building with idyllic views of the 18-hole golf course and surrounding rainforest, the 96 room resort and facilities significantly enhances the existing operation to provide a complete destination style experience.

General Manager of Vision Hotels and Resorts, Craig Biber said the resort offers many benefits to key markets, particularly golfing, conference and wedding / event clients who would have previously enjoyed the facilities but needed to look elsewhere for accommodation.

“Another market we are also giving high priority is families. So far business has been strong in this sector with families from interstate taking advantage of discounted air fares and Rudd’s stimulus package.

“With the opening of the resort, we have effectively become a world-class destination in every sense of the word,” he said.

The resort was developed at a cost of $20 million by HS Vision Group to  provide guests with their own exclusive precinct and private access to a range of quality recreation/resort facilities set within tropical gardens and swimming pools.

Guests enjoy close access to the clubhouse, its newly opened 59 Restaurant and Bar, pro-shop, conference centre and 18-hole golf course. The facilities will be further expanded within the next 12 months to include a day spa, health club, 2000 sq. m themed children’s playground and mini golf.

Right: Visitor, Susan Miller and Celebrant, Barbie Anderson

Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club’s wedding expo coordinator, Danielle Diacos has declared Sunday’s inaugural wedding expo an unprecedented success.

Attracting some 400 visitors through the door of Paradise Palms’ Clubhouse, of which an astounding 200 were brides-to-be, Ms Diacos said the event was extremely popular despite worries that inclement weather would keep people away.

“All of our 25 exhibiting suppliers were thrilled with the roll up and the opportunity it provided to set up good business for the forthcoming year.  While the highlight of the day was our bridal fashion parade from “Say I Do…Wedding Gowns”, we were also delighted to confirm several weddings while fielding serious enquiry from  prospective brides and their families,” she said.

All intended brides who visited Sunday’s expo were automatically entered into the draw to win a honeymoon on Hamilton Island.  The lucky winners are Kellie Noller and Ryan Bartlett who will tie the knot at Paradise Palms on 29 August 2009.
