Last Sunday, 1 November, Paradise Palms Resort and Country Club hosted an open day, to launch its new Pelicans in Paradise facilities comprising swimming, adventure park and mini golf. The day was hailed a great success, attracting locals from near and far while raising $7066.55 to support FNQ Hospital Foundation.
The open day program was all about giving families and interested members of the community a taste of the new facilities while enjoying free activities and entertainment; face painting, mini golf competition, golf clinic, treasure hunt, Rachel Bradley music show, sausage sizzle and more. Guests also took full advantage of the opportunity to relax with a drink in 59 Restaurant and Bar.
An official opening of Pelicans in Paradise took place at 2pm with a ribbon-cutting performed by Mayor of Cairns Regional Council, Val Schier.
Craig Biber, General Manager for Vision Hotels and Resorts said the day effectively showcased Paradise Palms’ new facilities which are now open and available for locals to use and enjoy.
“We are proud to unveil our fantastic new adventure playground and mini golf in particular which are designed to enhance our world-class experience for guests of all ages – not just the serious golfers.
”In addition to this, the open day also served to successfully fundraise for the FNQ Hospital Foundation. Basically, all visitors were invited to donate a gold coin in return for participation – be it mini-golf or other. We also held a special charity auction to raise additional funds,” she said.
FNQ Hospital Foundation Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator, Justine Warren says she is very grateful to Paradise Palms and said the fundraising will support the redevelopment of a Short Stay and Recreational Area of the Children’s Ward at Cairns Base Hospital.
“The project will build on, and enhance the current small play area into a large, multi faceted area encompassing both indoor and outdoor recreational and educational facilities and additional beds for pediatric inpatients. This will include a new school room, an Arts and Craft centre, a family reflection garden and play equipment designed to assist in rehabilitation. With an estimated cost of $800 000, we rely greatly on the support of business such as Vision Hotels and Resorts and the local community to get behind us and support the sick children of the Far North,” said Justine.
