UNITE THE NIGHT WITH DRUMS, DANCE AND SONG
Shakinah Dance Crew Emma Andrews Jodee Kingsley The DOGS Drummers
Some of Cairns most talented young performers will unite for a free, family concert in Fogarty Park on Saturday 12 September from 7:30pm to 9:30pm
After making its debut in 2008 as part of Festival Cairns program, UNITE will ‘bring it’ to Cairns with a bigger and bolder line up of performers presented by Cairns Christian Ministers Network in cooperation with the Christian Churches of Cairns.
According to event organiser, Richard Mindenhall, UNITE is all about celebrating life, music and the importance of community.
“As a Christian collective, we are focussed in our quest to present an evening of dance, contemporary worship, artistic expressions and prayer for the blessing of Cairns.
“In so doing, we have secured the talents of local artists that include the extremely entertaining Shakinah Dance crew, passionate songwriter, Jodee Kingsley, Emma Andrews – the lead singer of indi-rock band, The Medics – and boys drumming group, DOGS (Drummers of the Good Shepherd).”
As in its inaugural year, the UNITE worship band will play an integral role in tying the program of individual performances together.
“This year the UNITE worship band will be led by two great musicians and leaders, Jordan Wedrat from Generations Churches and Briony Moon from Freshwater Christian Church.
“Both are totally dedicated to leading others in worship and are involved in the worship life of their own church communities. This year we also have guest worship leaders, Nayet Gebadi from Living Waters Christian churches and Chris Magarey from Generations Churches.
“For the first time this year, a choir and strings section will join UNITE’s worship band. This exciting venture will made up of musicians and vocalists from across the churches in Cairns to join the band in a night of passionate worship,” said Richard.
In addition to the abundant music and dance, UNITE brings the importance of Christianity to the fore with a series of three prayer focuses. These are Prayer for Youth of the Region, Prayer for Youth of the Nation and Prayer for Youth of the World.
Performer Backgrounds – UNITE
- DOGS (Drummers of the Good Shepherd)
DOGS (Drummers Of the Good Shepherd) is a boys drumming group based at The Good Shepherd Church, Edge Hill.
Each week a group of around 14 boys, led by Glenn Saggers, meet to study both the bible and the drum.
The boys use drums and percussion from all over the world to build their rhythms and incorporate a variety of styles such as African, Middle Eastern, Indian, tribal and modern rock rhythms.
Their drumming is at times loud, energetic and moving, where they often accompany a song or play solo drumming pieces.
Through these drums, the boys are brought together in one beat to praise God. “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise,
and rejoice, and sing praise.” (Psalm 98:4)
- The Shakinah Dance Crew
The Shakinah Dance crew exists to create anointed dances and compelling dramas designed to Inspire, Influence and Challenge people from all walks of life. Our unshakable dance crew pursues a dance intended to stamp out injustice and bring the hope of glory to every platform they embrace.

· Emma Andrews
Emma Andrews is a current member of indie-rock band “The Medics” with a sweet soft vocal style; she brings a different dimension to the all boy band. She is in her own right a gifted songwriter, and will for the first time bring her piano based performance to the UNITE stage.
