Police Beat Sergeant Owen Kennedy will take time out from his regular day job to tickle the ivories of the Esplanade’s resident piano that will be situated for ‘all’ to play during Festival Cairns.

The streets will come alive to the tinkling of keys when pianos are placed around the CBD, and the community is encouraged to channel their inner Mozart, take a seat and play. Talented pianists, aspiring pianists and those that like to have a go, are all invited to participate in Keys to the City.
Every piano has its own story to tell, having been artistically painted by one of a group of emerging artists….especially for Festival Cairns 2009.
According to Mayor of Cairns Regional Council, Val Schier, this activity is bound to delight festival goers of all ages and bring the city to life. “
“This is an activity that everyone can get involved in and will help create the vibrant atmosphere that Council wants for our inner city area, especially during the festival,” she said.
This is a free program developed by Cairns Esplanade to incorporate music, art and community in the city.
Keys to the City runs all day at pianos on Esplanade (in front of Police Beat), City Place and along Shields Street.
