BUDDHIST MEDITATION & BIRDING
While Festival Cairns 2009 official program holds a number of crowd pleasing highlights, there are also a series of smaller events included to capture the uniqueness of this region’s flora and fauna while enriching the range of activities available.
Buddhist Meditation Tours
Festival goers are invited to lose themselves in the serenity of a calming Buddhist meditation, set against one of the city’s most tranquil natural settings.
Venerable Rinchen (pictured at left), from the Khacho Yulo Ling Buddhist Centre of Cairns, along with visiting Monk, Venerable Thupten Lekshe, will lead the group on a walking meditation under the rainforest canopy at Cairns Botanic Gardens on the morning of Sunday 23rd August at 10am. Meet at 9.45am for a 30min session, at the McCormack Street gate on the side of the Flecker Botanic Gardens.
A second walking meditation will take place the following Sunday, 30 August at 6pm in the Peace gardens of the Esplanade. Meeting 15 minutes prior cnr Charles Street and the Esplanade.
Enhanced by the beauty of the region’s tropical natural surrounds, this meditation activity is destined to encourage concentration and mindfulness – and when practised daily, becoming the stepping stone to a calm and balanced mind.
Admission is by gold coin donation.
